ED Action On Raj Kundra Money Laundering Case: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has taken a significant step in its investigation by attaching assets worth Rs 98 crore belonging to Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra as part of a money laundering probe. The attached assets include a luxurious bungalow in Pune, a residential flat in Mumbai's Juhu, registered under Shilpa Shetty's name, and equity shares held by Raj Kundra.
The action from ED follows a money laundering case originating from FIRs filed by the Maharashtra Police and Delhi Police against Variable Tech Pte Ltd, along with individuals such as Late Amit Bhardwaj, Ajay Bhardwaj, Vivek Bhardwaj, Simpy Bhardwaj, Mahender Bhardwaj, and several other agents. The federal agency alleged that they had collected huge amounts of funds in the form of Bitcoins, worth Rs 6,600 crore in 2017, from the gullible public with the false promises of a 10 per cent per month return in the form of Bitcoins.
The perpetrators of this scam cheated the investors and have been concealing the ill-gotten Bitcoins in obscure online wallets, the ED alleged. Notably, Raj Kundra is purported to have received 285 Bitcoins from Amit Bhardwaj, the mastermind behind the Gain Bitcoin Ponzi scam, for setting up a Bitcoin mining farm in Ukraine, it claimed.
According to ED, Kundra is still in possession of 285 Bitcoins which are presently valued at more than Rs 150 crore. A provisional attachment order has been issued under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to attach these properties worth Rs 97.79 crore, it said.
