End Of An Era: Lalu's Family To Vacate 10 Circular Road, RJD's Political Fortress And Strategy Hub For Two Decades

Bihar: For the past two decades, 10 Circular Road has served as the central hub for Bihar's politics, for both ruling and opposition parties. The bungalow was allotted to Rabri Devi in 2005 after the Lalu-Rabri family vacated 1 Anne Marg following Nitish Kumar's appointment as Chief Minister.

Since then, the residence has remained the centre for the state's major political developments.

RJD's Unofficial Headquarters For Over Two Decades

According to a report by Jagran.com, 10 Circular Road had gradually become the unofficial headquarters of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), serving as the venue for grand alliance meetings, election strategy sessions, and major party decisions.

The bungalow has been central to Lalu Prasad Yadav's political activities, the rise of Tejashwi Yadav, and key party announcements. From hosting Iftar parties to meetings of MLAs, the address has established itself as the 'second-largest' political power centre in Bihar.

Legal Challenges In The Past

10 Circular Road has previously faced legal scrutiny in the past. In 2019, the Patna High Court abolished lifetime government accommodation for former chief ministers. The ruling raised speculation that Rabri Devi would have to vacate the property.

However, being the Leader of the Opposition, she continued to enjoy the right to government accommodation.

Rabri Devi Told To Vacate 10 Circular Road

Following the formation of the new NDA government in 2025, the Building Construction Department initiated the process of redistribution of government housing, allotting 39 Harding Road to Rabri Devi.

According to the report, citing sources, the 10 Circular Road bungalow has been allotted to Nand Kishore Ram, the Bihar government's Minister for Animal, Fisheries, and Dairy Resources, directing the Lalu family to vacate the premises.
