Liquor Policy Case: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday wrote to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) after dodging the latter's summons for the fourth time in the Delhi liquor policy case. Kejriwal termed the summons as "political vendetta" and questioned the timing of the notices sent by ED just two months ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. The Delhi CM further alleged that the BJP is trying to get him arrested so that he can not campaign for the general elections.

"ED sent me the fourth notice today and asked me to appear before them on either on 18th or 19th January. These four notices are illegal and invalid. Whenever such notices are sent by ED, they are quashed by the court," Kejriwal said.

"These notices are nothing but just political vendetta. An investigation is being done in this case for 2 years but they did not recover anything. Why have I been called 2 months before the Lok Sabha elections? ED is being run by BJP. Their only intention is to arrest me so that I cannot campaign for the elections," Kejriwal added.

Kejriwal, in his letter to the probe agency, said the summon against him was political, reiterating that the act was done to stop him from campaigning in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls. Kejriwal further questioned what was the point of sending summons when ED had stated that he was not an accused in the liquor policy scam.

“Arvind Kejriwal is scheduled to leave for Goa on Thursday as per a pre-announced schedule,” an official in the Chief Minister’s office earlier said, adding that the AAP convener will assess the party’s preparedness in the state for the coming Lok Sabha polls.

On Kejriwal’s reluctance to appear before the probe agency, BJP said the former was behaving like a fugitive but the law will soon reach him. “CM Kejriwal is behaving like a fugitive but the law will soon reach him. The day ED takes cognisance of his evasive behaviour and takes stern action against the CM, then Aam Aadmi Party will start playing the victim card,” said Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor.

Notably, Kejriwal has so far skipped three summons— on November 2, on December 22, and on January 3 — calling them ‘illegal and politically motivated’.
