A Delhi court on Tuesday extended the judicial custody of AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal till September 3 in the Excise Policy case. The court will take cognisance of the chargesheet filed against the Delhi CM during the next hearing, ANI reported. The CBI, however, moved an application seeking an extension of Kejriwal’s custody by 14 days.

Arvind Kejriwal, who appeared through video conferencing, submitted before the court that his sugar level was dropping. He sought the court’s permission to have his lunch.

The federal probe agency, during the hearing, alleged that it had credible evidence that Kejriwal promised Rs 90 lakh to each candidate of 40 constituencies during assembly polls in Goa. It said AAP leader Durgesh Pathak was in charge of the Goa election and the entire money was distributed at his behest.

The CBI team also said the money came from the South Group, the liquor cartel which is said to have benefited from the scam.

The court was hearing CBI's arguments on the supplementary charge sheet against CM Kejriwal and others.

Notably, Arvind Kejriwal is lodged in Tihar Jail in a CBI case. He was, however, granted bail in the ED case.

Besides, the Supreme Court on Tuesday granted bail to BRS leader K Kavitha in money laundering and corruption cases linked with the Delhi Excise Policy scam. Kavitha, the daughter of former Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 15. She was also lodged in Tihar Jail in Delhi.

The top court also pulled up the CBI and ED over the nature of the probe in the case. "Prosecution has to be fair. A person who incriminates himself has been made a witness! Tomorrow you pick up anyone as you please? You cannot pick and choose any accused. What is this fairness? Very fair and reasonable discretion!!" Justice Gavai observed during the hearing, as per Live Law.
