A shooting incident occurred at a Hanukkah event on Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, on Sunday, December 14, 2025, which killed at least 15 people. Reports suggest the father-son duo who carried out the attack are named Sajid Akram and Naveed Akram. Following the attack, a video went viral on social media showing a person bravely tackling and disarming one of the shooters. While this person is being widely praised on social media under the name Ahmed Al Ahmed, some users are sharing screenshots of the video, claiming that the person's name is actually Edward Crabtree, not Ahmed Al Ahmed.

Vishvas News, in its investigation, found that the brave man seen in the video disarming the gunman is actually named Ahmed Al Ahmed, not Edward Crabtree.

What is the Viral Post?

Facebook user Gurnam Singh shared (archive link) the video screenshot on December 16, 2025, writing, "The brave man who snatched the rifle from Naveed Akram's father, who was firing indiscriminately at Jews in Sydney, and saved many lives, is named Edward Crabtree, not Ahmed Al Ahmed. To defend the terrorists' religion, leftists propagated that the person who snatched the gun was named Ahmed, so that the citizens of Australia would not get angry. This is exactly like how the other group forms a human chain to protect temples during riots in India."

Investigation

To check the viral claim, we did a keyword search. We found several news reports regarding this incident. A December 14, 2025, report from Al Jazeera confirmed, citing Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, that the man who disarmed the gunman is named Ahmed Al Ahmed.

A December 14, 2025, report from NBC News also identified the man who disarmed the attacker as Ahmed Al Ahmed. According to the report, he underwent an operation due to a gunshot wound and is currently recovering.

A December 16, 2025, report from The Guardian also stated the person's name as Ahmed Al Ahmed. According to the news report, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also met Ahmed in the hospital and praised him. The video of this meeting can also be seen in the news report.

J.P. Ranjan, a senior correspondent covering international news for Dainik Jagran, also confirmed that the brave person who disarmed the gunman in the Sydney attack is named Ahmed Al Ahmed, not Edward Crabtree.

Bondi Beach Attack

A terrorist attack occurred on Bondi Beach, Sydney, Australia, on December 14, 2025. The attack took place when people were gathered to celebrate the Jewish festival of Hanukkah. At approximately 6:40 PM, two gunmen opened fire indiscriminately into the crowd, resulting in the deaths of over 15 people and injuring about 40. The deceased included children and the elderly. The attackers were identified as 50-year-old Sajid Akram and his 24-year-old son, Naveed Akram. Sajid Akram was killed in the police's retaliatory action, while Naveed is seriously injured and in police custody at the hospital.

The Facebook user Gurnam Singh, who shared the fake post, has more than 51,000 followers.
