Fact Check: A video of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat is circulating widely on social media, showing him with Muslim individuals at an event. Some users claim that this video was recorded after the results of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that this video is being misrepresented. The video dates back to July 2023, when Bhagwat attended an event hosted by Dr Imam Omar Ahmed Ilyasi, Chief Imam of All India Imam Organisation. At the same time, the Lok Sabha election results were also announced on June 4, 2024.
After extracting the keyframes from the video using Google Lens, we found the pictures shared by Dr Ilyasi on a LinkedIn account in the name of Chief Imam. According to the post, dated July 8, 2023, the Chief Imam attended the Daawat-e-Walima (reception) of Faizan Munir, son of Imam Umer Ahmed Ilyasi.
According to the Election Commission's records, the last phase of the Lok Sabha elections began on April 19, 2024, and was concluded on June 1, 2024, with the vote counting completed on June 4, 2024. Former RSS Prant Pracharak Rajiv Tuli confirmed that the video predates the election results.
