Fact Check: As the Lok Sabha elections draw near, political parties have intensified their campaign efforts. Consequently, numerous videos pertaining to the election campaign are circulating widely on social media platforms. However, many of these videos have been edited or manipulated. One such video going viral on social media featuring Bollywood actor Aamir Khan. The video has been circulating widely on social media, connecting it to the Congress campaign for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In the video, Aamir Khan is heard discussing a sum of Rs 15 lakh.

Fact Check: Viral Claim Turns Out To Be Fake

Upon investigation, Vishvas News, the fact-checking arm of Jagran New Media, found that the video of Aamir Khan had been manipulated and edited. The original footage is from a promotional clip of an episode of Aamir Khan's show, Satyamev Jayate, which was released eight years ago. Social media users are now sharing this edited video with false claims.

Fact Check: What's The Truth?

The video of Aamir Khan was determined to be fake as fact-checkers from Vishvas News noticed a discrepancy between the audio and the lip movements, which raised suspicions about its authenticity. Keyframes from the viral video were extracted and searched, which led to a promotional video from the fourth episode of Satyamev Jayate, uploaded on the show's official YouTube channel on August 30, 2016. In this clip, Aamir Khan discusses the misconception of India being a poor country, emphasizing that every citizen should ideally possess at least Rs 1 crore. This dialogue does not match the content of the viral video, indicating that the audio was added separately. Also, there was no mention of Rs 15 lakh in the authentic footage.
