The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has seized large quantities of adulterated food in parts of Rajasthan and Jharkhand. Inspections revealed that the seized products pose serious health risks for the consumers. The raids were made by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India to restrain the illegal supply of adulterated foods.
According to a video shared by the FSSAI on March 14, Rajasthan's Food Safety Department busted a large-scale operation that involved expired packaged food products. The team seized 1.5 lakh kilograms of expired items, including noodles, sauces, and mayonnaise. The inspections were conducted at storage facilities and distribution points.
The concerning part was when the team discovered sophisticated equipment to intentionally erase and alter original expiration dates on packaged food products.
Nearly 150 tonnes of expired food products were seized and reportedly destroyed under official supervision. Food safety officers said the scale of the operation suggests an organised attempt to manipulate food safety norms and mislead consumers.

Authorities repeatedly claimed that selling or distributing expired food is a serious violation of food safety laws and can result in severe health consequences. The department has begun further investigations to identify the people involved in the supply chain and determine how long the operation had been running.
Fake Paneer Seized in Jharkhand
In a similar raid in Jharkhand, the state Food Safety Department carried out a major inspection in Dhanbad following specific intelligence inputs.
During the operation, intercepted a bus arriving from Bihar and found a large consignment of suspected adulterated food products. The seizure included around 1,450 kilograms of paneer and 90 litres of oil suspected to be substandard.
The paneer samples were then tested on the spot. Upon conducting tests, the team found the presence of starch, proving that the food item was not suitable for consumption. The food safety team asserted that these kinds of adulterations not only compromise nutritional value but also increase health risks for children and elders.
The safety authorities destroyed the entire seized consignment to prevent its supply in the market. Officials claimed to take strict action against those responsible for transporting and distributing the fake paneer and substandard oil.

FSSAI has urged consumers to remain cautious, check expiry dates, and report suspicious food products to local authorities. The food safety team has also stressed the importance of strong enforcement to deter such practices and ensure that food reaching consumers meets safety standards.
