Lok Sabha Polls 2024: In a setback to BJP national general secretary CT Ravi, an FIR was registered against him over a social media post allegedly promoting enmity on the grounds of religion. The District Election Officer of Chikkamagalur registered the FIR.
"Dear Hindus, CONgress co-owner Rahul Gandhi has declared war against us Hindus. It is high time we unite to protest and defend Sanatana Dharma from those who are out to destroy it," the former Karnataka Minister posted on 'X' on Wednesday.
Taking cognisance of it, the election commission took action against Ravi following the prescribed rules of the model code of conduct. The electoral officer lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against him at Chikkamagalur Town Police Station. The FIR cites violations of section 153A of the Indian Penal Code and section 126 of the Representation of the People Act.
Reacting to the FIR, the BJP leader said, "I have received the details of the FIR filed against me by Congress. As a Sanatani, I responded to the irresponsible and insensitive comments made by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi." He said he would greatly appreciate it if the EC could share the details of the FIR lodged against the former Congress President for his statements hurting the sentiments of those who follow 'Sanatana Dharma."

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has instructed the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to stop sending 'Viksit Bharat' messages on WhatsApp immediately, citing the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) after the 2024 Lok Sabha polls announcement. The poll body has requested a report on compliance from the Ministry.
