Speaking at an event organised to mark the centenary year of Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS), the Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday responded to the US tariffs on India, saying that the government will take decisions on Trump’s tariff and RSS doesn’t tell the government how to deal with it, maintaining that “there is no friendship under pressure.”

Bhagwat made the comments while responding to the questions about international trade and tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.

What Did Mohan Bhagwat Say On US Tariffs?

A day after an additional 25 per cent tariff on Indian goods imposed by Donald Trump came into effect, the RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat made remarks saying, “International trade is essential and must happen, as it also maintains relations between countries. But it should not be under pressure; friendship cannot thrive under pressure.”

He further stated that RSS does not influence the government on such matters, and the government knows what needs to be done, and the Sangh will support it.

“We don't influence the government to respond to this way or that according to what Trump says. They have to handle that. What they have to do, they will decide. Whatever they will do, it is necessary for everyone to support that. They have to decide what to do. They know how it is done. They will look after the hurdles,” Bhagwat was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

Earlier on Wednesday, the RSS chief Bhagwat said that international trade should happen voluntarily and not under any pressure. He also appealed to Indians to use Swadeshi products. Donald Trump imposed an additional 25 per cent tariff on Indian goods for its Russian oil purchases on Wednesday. This move may pose serious challenges to India’s US-oriented exporters.
