CJ Roy, the real estate tycoon based on Bengaluru, died by suicide while an Income Tax raid was underway at his office. He died after he allegedly shot himself.
CJ Roy's suicide has sent shockwaves through business and social circles in the city. A detailed investigation has been launched into the matter as the deceased's brother, CJ Babu, has claimed that apart fromthe IT raid, there was no issue and that officials have much to answer.
Who was CJ Roy?
CJ Roy was the chairman and founder of the Confident Group, a real-estate company with big projects in its catalogue, including in Kerala, Bengaluru and Dubai.
He was often seen interacting with students and entrepreneurs at public platforms, delivering success mantras.
Roy was a public figure with a strong presence on social media. Showcasing public and personal aspects of his life, his posts reflected a larger-than-life image.
He used to post frequently on his cars and choppers, his travel stories.
Known for his car collection
Roy was fond of cars and had a huge collection of luxury vehicles. He owned a blue Bugatti Veyron, the world’s fastest street-legal car.
He was seen driving it in a recently viral video. Roy was reported to have at least seven high-end cars, including several Rolls-Royces. He also owned Phantom VIII.
His garage also featured various models of Lamborghini.

What is the case?
According to his brother, Roy was in Dubai and was asked by IT officials to be present in Bengaluru during their arrival.
"Prima facie, it appears that industrialist CJ Roy has shot himself. Ballistic experts and other officials are investigating the case," Bengaluru Police chief Seemanth Kumar Singh said after visiting Roy’s residence on Longford Road.
The handgun allegedly used in the suicide has been seized by the police and sent for forensic examination.
