Independence Day 2025: From the announcement of the Rs 1 lakh crore employment scheme to vows of GST reforms, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Friday, made several big announcements in his record 103-minute Independence Day speech from the ramparts of the Red Fort. These announcements by PM Modi align with the broader Viksit Bharat mission. Greeting the nation on the historic day, PM Modi hailed Operation Sindoor and also addressed major contemporary issues. India is celebrating its 79th Independence Day on August 15, 2025 (Friday) with the Prime Minister unfurling the national flag at the Red Fort.

Here Are The Key Announcements From PM Modi's Speech

Employment Scheme: In a major push towards job creation in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced ‘Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana’ in his Independence Day speech. Under this scheme, newly-employed youth entering the private sector for the first time will get Rs 15,000 per month as financial support. This scheme will apply to jobs created between August 1, 2025, to September 31, 2027 and will come into effect from today, August 15. PM Modi announced Rs 1 lakh crore for Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana, aiming to create 3.5 crore jobs over the next two years. In addition to this, employers hiring freshers will get incentives under Part B of the scheme.

Diwali Gift For Taxpayers:  The Prime Minister announced major Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms and promised a ‘Diwali Gift’ for taxpayers. “Next-generation GST reforms will be unveiled on Diwali, reducing taxes on essential goods and providing relief to MSMEs, local vendors and consumers,” PM Modi said in his I-Day speech. Moreover, he announced the creation of a dedicated Reform Tax Force to drive next-generation GST reforms, accelerate economic growth, modernise governance and drive India towards a USD 10 trillion economy by 2047.

Sudarshan Chakra:  While delivering his 12th consecutive speech to the nation on the 79th Independence Day, PM Modi announced that India will launch ‘Sudarshan Chakra’, a mission aimed at expanding, strengthening and modernising the national security shield. “India aims to develop its own Iron Dome-like defence system, named Mission Sudarshan Chakra, designed to safeguard critical sites, including civilian areas. This powerful system will not only counter terrorist attacks but also strike back at the terrorists,” he said. This system draws inspiration from Lord Shri Krishna’s Sudarshan Chakra.

High-Power Demography Mission:  In his record 130-minute speech, PM Modi addressed several contemporary issues, including the dangers of demographic imbalance due to infiltration and illegal migration in border areas. He announced the launch of a ‘high-power demography mission’ to safeguard the nation and address security concerns.

Nuclear Energy Capacity:  Emphasising Aatmanirbhar Bharat, the Prime Minister said that India’s nuclear energy capacity is expected to grow by over ten times in nearly two decades. Under the mission to increase nuclear capacity in the country, work is underway on 10 nuclear reactors and is expected to grow tenfold by 2047.
