The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has rolled out a technology-driven initiative in Himachal Pradesh aimed at enhancing passenger safety and travel convenience on national highways. Under this project, comprehensive road-related information is being provided through QR codes installed along the busy and strategically important Kiratpur-Nerchowk highway.
Facility Available On Kiratpur-Nerchowk Four Lane
Currently, this facility is available only on the Kiratpur-Nerchowk four-lane stretch, making it a first-of-its-kind initiative in the state. NHAI has installed over three dozen QR codes along this corridor, from the Bilaspur district border to Nerchowk.
By scanning the QR code with a mobile phone, drivers and passengers can instantly access all essential information related to the four-lane highway. This includes details about the road and toll plazas, as well as emergency services, health facilities and passenger amenities, all available in a single click.
The QR code system is expected to be especially useful during night travel, adverse weather conditions or emergencies. In case of vehicle breakdowns, medical emergencies or if travellers are stranded on the highway, they can quickly connect with the relevant authorities, hospitals or police without searching for help.
Kiratpur-Nerchowk Four Lane Connectivity
The Kiratpur-Nerchowk four lane is a key route connecting Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh with major tourist destinations such as Mandi, Kullu-Manali and Lahaul-Spiti. As a result, this digital initiative is likely to boost tourism while also strengthening traffic management and road safety.
