Chinese Robot Dog Controversy: Amid the brewing robot dog controversy revolving around Galgotias University at the India AI Summit, the university administration has stated that Professor Neha Singh has not been suspended and has been directed to remain in the institute as the matter is under investigation.
It all started after the institute showcased a robotic dog model at the India AI Summit and allegedly claimed that it was developed at the institute under its own AI research wing. However, the robodog was later found to be a product of China, known as Unitree Go2. The representative of Galgotias University, Neha Singh, came under fire and later issued a clarification that the robodog was not developed by the institute but was purchased to teach students.

However, the controversy snowballed, and Galgotias University representatives were reportedly asked to leave the Summit and the electricity supply to their stall was also cut. University Registrar Nitin Kumar Gaur claimed that the institution had issued an official explanation, acknowledging the mistake from their end. It also apologised for the embarrassment and said that an internal review would be conducted to identify the exact error.
Gaur issued an official statement saying that he never wished for the college's or India's reputation to be ruined. The official also noted that the university was never intended to mislead anyone. The registrar added that the university remains committed to the emerging growth of the students and ensured that such mistakes will not be repeated.
What Sparked the Controversy?
Social media was flooded with criticism after Professor Neha Singh presented the robodog named Orion at the AI Impact Summit and claimed it was created by the university's Centre of Excellence. Viewers in no time called it a false claim. The users said that the robot was actually a commercial product by China's Unitree Robotics.
The India AI Impact Summit was organised to showcase the emerging growth of artificial intelligence across India and the global south. The unexpected chaos drew widespread criticism from various experts, who claimed that such misinformation must not be tolerated in an international summit.
