Delhi News: Weddings at Delhi’s historic monuments may soon become a reality as the Delhi government is planning to open select monuments to host private and cultural events. A scheme is in development that will allow bookings of monuments for weddings, cultural programs, and other events, an official said.

Around 80 monuments under the Delhi Archaeology Department are expected to be shortlisted for this initiative, news agency PTI reported.

Monuments under consideration include:

- Mutiny Memorial, Northern Ridge - Built in 1863 to commemorate soldiers who died during the Revolt of 1857.

- Dara Shikoh Library, Kashmere Gate - The library was once the residence of Mughal prince Dara Shikoh and later a British office.

- Maqbara Paik, near GTK Bus Depot - A Mughal-era tomb believed to be one of the imperial couriers.

- Sadhana Enclave Tomb: A Lodi-period structure showcasing early Indo-Islamic architecture.

- Qudsia Garden Pavilions: Built by Qudsia Begum, wife of Emperor Muhammad Shah, the pavilions at Qudsia Garden are a part of an 18th-century palace complex.

Other potential sites under consideration include medieval tombs and walls in Vasant Vihar, Ghalib Haveli in Chandni Chowk, and the 14th-century Bara Lao ka Gumbad.

Speaking to news agency PTI, the official said that the plan is in early stages, with discussions underway on implementation and venue selection. “Extra security measures will be introduced to ensure that heritage structures are not damaged during private or cultural events,” the official added.

The Delhi government is also reportedly considering GST relaxation on booking fees for such venues, the PTI report added.

The initiative, earlier announced by Delhi Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra, aims to make monuments more accessible to the public while building basic infrastructure and obtaining approvals.
