The 45-year-old accused, identified as Sudhir Sharma, lived with his slain 32-year-old roommate Netram Sharma at a rented house in Khoda, said Ghaziabad police.

During police interrogation, the suspect accepted his crime and revealed that he ordered his daily food from a hotel, but the deceased would cook in the house.

Both the accused and the victim belonged to Farukhabad. As per the report, they rented the house in Madhu Vihar, Khoda, just 10 days before the murder, they added.

How case came to light?

On March 21, the neighbours sensed a foul smell emanating from the locked house. After this, they alerted the police, who swung into action and found a decomposed body that was later identified.

Providing details, he said that CCTV footage revealed that the suspect left the house on the morning of March 17 and never returned which raised suspicion and the hunt was launched.

He said, "Locals shared the two stayed together. The CCTV cameras’ footage was scanned and it showed that the suspect locked the house around 7am on March 17 but never returned. This raised suspicion. A search was launched, and the suspect was finally traced in Khoda and arrested. He was staying in hiding in densely-populated Khoda ever since."

"The suspect said that he always objected to his (Netram) cooking in the house and also his friends’ visits. On the late night of March 16, the two had a fight over cooking. The suspect pushed the deceased and he suffered some injuries. Thereafter, the suspect offered him alcohol -- a strong mix of foreign made and country-made liquor. This left him unconscious. The suspect left the house in the early morning of March 17 and fled after locking the house,” the ACP added.

The suspect neither used mobile phone nor did he contact any friend or his family which prolonged the hunt. However, based on manual information, several police teams, who launched a search for the suspect, finally traced the suspect and arrested him from Khoda. On March 29, the family filed a complaint based on which an FIR under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita section 103(1) (murder) was registered.
