In a shocking incident, an Indian Air Force civil engineer was shot dead Saturday morning at his official residence in the cantonment area in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj. The cantonment is a sensitive area in terms of security.

The police on Saturday said an unknown person shot at him from the window while he was sleeping in his room.

Air Force civil engineer SN Mishra (51) received a bullet in his chest and was rushed to the Army hospital, said Puramufti Station House Officer (SHO) Manoj Singh.

Mishra succumbed to his injuries at the hospital and the body has been sent for post-mortem, he added. The victim is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

A case will be registered after receiving a complaint from the family and further legal action will be taken, the officer said.

Boiler blast at a paper mill in UP kills three

In another incident, three labourers were killed in a boiler explosion at a paper mill in the Bhojpur police station area in UP's Ghaziabad on Friday.

The incident occurred around 6 am when the workers were on duty at the Nordstern Rubber and Rolls Private Limited in Datedi village, they said.

"All of a sudden the boiler blasted due to which the three labourers flung in the air and fell 50 feet away," a police source said.

The workers suffered severe injuries, with their body parts strewn around, the source said.
The deceased have been identified as Yogendra Kumar (48), a resident of Bhojpur village, Anuj Singh (27) from Krishna Nagar, Modinagar and Awdhesh Kumar (21) of Jewar, Greater Noida. Another worker, Lucky, received mild injuries, according to the police.
