The body of an unidentified teenage girl was found stuffed in a plastic bag and recovered from the Masuri Ganga canal in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad on Sunday. Locals noticed the bag stuck in bushes along the canal’s embankment and immediately informed the police.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Masuri) Suryabali Maurya stated that the girl appeared to be around 16-17 years old and was wearing jeans and a top. No external injuries were found on the body, which had started decomposing. Police believe the murder may have occurred two to three days earlier.

Preliminary investigation suggests the body may have been dumped either from a train passing over the nearby railway bridge or from a moving vehicle. The water current possibly carried the body to the location where it was discovered.

"It is likely that the body was dumped into the canal either from a train passing over the railway bridge nearby or from a vehicle. The water current may have carried it to the spot where it was discovered," Maurya added.

The girl's identity remains unknown, and her body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, which will be conducted after 36 hours. If unclaimed, cremation will follow protocol after 72 hours.

In a separate case earlier this month, police arrested a 20-year-old man, Jojo, from Kerala’s Kuzhoor in connection with the death of a six-year-old boy named Abel. The child, who had gone missing around 6:20 pm, was found dead in a pond near Mala the same evening.

Police suspect the boy was murdered after resisting a sexual assault attempt by the accused, who was a neighbour. Jojo’s arrest was recorded on Friday and he is to be produced before court.
