A day after the former Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) Om Prakash was found dead at his residence in Bengaluru’s HSR Layout, his wife Pallavi Om Prakash (64) was arrested on Monday for her alleged involvement in the crime. Police confirmed her arrest and said she would be produced before a magistrate soon. Their daughter Kriti, who was also named in the FIR as a co-accused, has not yet been arrested.
The investigation, initially handled by the HSR Layout police, has been transferred to the Central Crime Branch (CCB) for a more thorough probe. "The case has been transferred to the CCB from the HSR Layout police station," DCP (South East) Sarah Fathima said, noting that further questioning of family members is underway, reported news agency IANS.
The FIR against Pallavi and Kriti was lodged based on a complaint by the victim’s son, Karthikesh Om Prakash. He alleged that his father had been facing death threats from his wife and that his sister had forcibly brought him back home after he had moved out due to domestic tensions. Karthikesh stated that Om Prakash had gone to live with his sister Sarita Kumari to escape the hostility.
According to the complaint, Karthikesh was informed of his father’s death by a neighbour. Upon reaching the scene, he found Om Prakash lying in a pool of blood with multiple injuries and weapons nearby. Police investigations revealed that the former top cop was attacked with knives and possibly incapacitated with chilli powder and oil. He was reportedly stabbed over a dozen times and fought for nearly 10 minutes before succumbing.
Police suspect the murder may not have been carried out by one person alone, though Pallavi reportedly confessed during preliminary questioning, claiming she acted in self-defence. She also claimed her daughter was locked in a room during the incident, which the police are verifying. Pallavi is said to suffer from a condition resembling schizophrenia and has been undergoing treatment at mental health centres, reported news agency IANS.

Pallavi had also sent a message to the wife of another IPS officer, claiming she had "finished off a monster." In another digital trail, she posted in a WhatsApp group, alleging her husband had terrorist links and was poisoning her and their daughter. She urged group members to report him to the NIA before exiting the group.
The investigation is ongoing, with police gathering evidence to determine the exact sequence of events and probe the involvement of the daughter in the alleged murder.
