Giridih Dry Day: ‘Dry Day’ shall be implemented in Giridih for 48 hours starting from 5 pm on Thursday for the sixth phase of voting in Lok Sabha elections in Jharkhand as per the instructions of the Election Commission of India (ECI). This order will remain in force till the end of voting on May 25. Liquor shops will remain shut in the border districts of Hazaribagh, Dhanbad, Bokaro and Jamtara as well. However, in the sixth phase, the order will not be applicable in Deoghar.

District Deputy Commissioner Naman Priyesh Lakra said that in view of voting, there will be complete prohibition on alcohol sale in Giridih for the next 48 hours starting on May 23 from 5:00 pm. During this period, liquor and intoxicants will not be sold in any shop, hotel, restaurant or club.

Meanwhile, in the seventh phase of Lok Sabha elections, there will be a ban on the sale of liquor in Giridih on May 31 due to elections in Deoghar. Notably, June 4, the day of counting of votes, has also been declared a ‘dry day’ in the district.

Dry Day In Delhi

Dry days will also be observed in Delhi from 6 pm on May 23 to May 25 till 6 pm, in anticipation of the sixth phase of 2024 Lok Sabha Elections. The Election Commission of India (ECI) ordered this ruling with the intention of upholding law and order and guaranteeing a fair and orderly electoral process.

All bars and wine stores in the impacted and surrounding constituencies have to stay closed during this time, under the directive of the ECI. In the directive it mentioned, ''All wine shops and bars will be closed on polling day to maintain public order," stated the ECI directive.

"The licensees shall not be entitled to any compensation on account of any changes effected in the above list. All the licensees shall exhibit this order at some conspicuous place of their licenced premises. The business premises of a licensee shall be kept closed on dry day," it added.

Gurugram, Haryana, and the Delhi NCR area will also be subject to similar regulations. In these areas, dry days are planned from May 23 to May 25 from 6 pm to 6 pm. These steps are in line with the ECI's initiatives to guarantee peaceful and well-run elections in a number of areas.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Phase 6

Phase 6 of the Lok Sabha elections in 2024 is set for May 25. This round will include polling in 58 seats spread across six states and two union territories. Notably, all seven seats in Delhi and all 10 in Haryana will be voting during this phase.
