Amid the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR), Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP from Serampore, Kalyan Banerjee, has stirred controversy by alleging that West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose was supplying arms and ammunition to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders within Raj Bhavan.

Banerjee’s accusations came in response to West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose’s defence of the SIR of electoral rolls, calling it essential for “cleaning up the election process.” In a sharp counter, the TMC MP accused the Governor of “sheltering BJP criminals” inside Raj Bhavan and “arming them with bombs and guns,” claiming that weapons were being supplied to BJP leaders from the Governor’s residence.

“As long as an incompetent governor like you remains, as long as a BJP-servant governor remains, you will never see anything good happening in West Bengal,” Banerjee added.

Governor Calls Banerjee’s Remark ‘Irresponsible’

Responding to the allegations, West Bengal Governor, labeled Kalyan Banerjee’s allegations of arms ammunition from the Raj Bhavan in Kolkata as "inflammatory, explosive and irresponsible."

Bose further said, "When a ruling party MP says that arms and ammunition are there inside the Raj Bhavan, is he expressing his lack of confidence in the police force of the state?" The Governor also said the Raj Bhavan has been kept open since Sunday morning from 5 a.m. for Banerjee, members of the civil society, and journalists for inspection and verification of any arms and ammunition stocked within the Governor's House premises. The Raj Bhavan has demanded an apology from Banerjee.

The BJP also strongly criticised Kalyan Banerjee's remarks. BJP MP Jaganath Sarkar said that Banerjee has lost his mental balance. "As he is a member of Parliament, action should be taken against him for such a comment," Sarkar added. Meanwhile, BJP's Agnimitra Paul said, "If arms and ammunition are found inside the Raj Bhavan, it means that the TMC MP (Kalyan Banerjee) is hitting out at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The security of the Raj Bhawan is with the Kolkata Police, which is under your (Mamata Banerjee's) government."
