In a matter related to the ongoing farmers protest near the Delhi border, the Supreme Court on Friday urged the protesting farmers to adapt the "Gandhian" way of protest and clear the national highway for smooth traffic. The High Power Committee formed by the court agreed to persuade the farmers to temporarily shift their protesting site.
A bench comprising Justice Surya Kant and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan stated that a communication must be established between the farmers and the government. Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta and Punjab Advocate General Gurminder Singh agreed that the farmers should consider shifting the location of their protests. The member secretary of the High Power Committee assured that the proposal will be taken to the farmers on a priority basis.
Besides, the Supreme Court also directed the Centre and Punjab government representatives to urgently meet farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who is on a fast-unto-death. The apex court stated that a dialogue must be established with the protesting farmer, and medical aid should be provided to him.
The court also stated that no force should be used to break Punjab farmer leader Dallewal’s protest unless it is imperative to save his life. Dallewal has been on a fast-unto-death since November 26 to draw the attention of the central government towards the ongoing farmers protest.

"He must be provided medical aid immediately, without forcing him to break his fast...Please have a direct dialogue and communication. His life is more precious than agitations. He is providing leadership...other farmers should support you," Justice Kant told AG Singh, reported Live Law.
However, the Punjab Advocate General requested the bench not to direct the shifting of Dallewal to the hospital, stating that it may create several problems for the administration. He also assured that the needful steps will be taken even without any such specific direction.
