Goa CM Pramod Sawant on Sunday inaugurated four electric Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTC) buses connecting Panjim with the rural areas of Sankhali under the ‘Majhi Bus’ scheme. 

He said, "4 EV buses have been launched from Sankhali constituency. Our 'Majhi Bus' scheme will benefit students and private employees along with others."

Earlier, he also said that his government is committed to ensuring housing for the underprivileged through its flagship ‘Mera Ghar’ scheme.

"We are working to ensure that those who have nothing get it through government schemes. Under the Goa government's Mera Ghar scheme, the government is working to resolve the problems of every house and land in Goa," he said.

What Is 'Majhi Bus' Scheme?

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on June 28 launched the Majhi Bus New Public Transport System, a digital initiative to modernise the state’s transport sector. The scheme provides tech-enabled upgrades and a subsidy of Rs 3 per kilometre to private bus operators joining the platform.

Key Highlights For Mazi Bus Scheme

Three Route Operation:

Canacona to Margao

Curchorem-Quepem-Margao

Curchorem-Ponda-Panaji

Private Buses And Pilot Period:

1. The pilot scheme will run for 6 months from June 15 to December 31, 2023.

2. A total of 41 buses will operate on the Canacona to Margao route, 102 buses on the Curchorem-Quepem-Margao route, and 144 buses on the Curchorem-Ponda-Panaji route.

How It Will Benefit Students, Private Employees And Others 

Last Mile Connectivity:

1. The buses under the Mazi Bus scheme will provide last-mile connectivity, especially during late-night and early-morning trips.

2. This initiative aims to ensure improved access to remote villages and enhance transportation services for the residents.

Ticketing And Bus Tracking App:

1. KTCL is developing a real-time bus ticketing and tracking app.

2. Commuters will have access to real-time bus schedules and the convenience of QR code-based ticket booking.

3. Vehicle Location Tracking Device (VLTD) devices have already been installed on 51 electric buses and 459 other KTCL buses.

4. The mobile application, which is currently being designed, is expected to be available to the public by mid-July 2023.

Taxis For Government Departments:

1. In addition to the Mazi Bus scheme, KTCL has also launched a scheme to hire taxis for government departments on a monthly basis for a five-year period.
