The Goa government has intensified policing and called for stringent measures at major tourist destinations following multiple incidents of foreign tourists being harassed, which gained attention after going viral online. One widely shared video from Arambol Beach sparked public outrage as it showed a group of men persistently trying to take photos with two foreign women. The men were seen placing their arms around the visibly uneasy tourists, who tried to distance themselves.

In a separate case from Vagator, bouncers at a local venue reportedly acted inappropriately towards a family visiting from Varanasi, prompting them to file complaints with the authorities.

‘Unacceptable Behaviour’, Tourism Department Issues Warning

Reacting to these reports, the Goa Tourism Department conducted an emergency meeting with Goa Police to strengthen tourist safety protocols. Officials clarified that bouncers are not permitted to interfere in matters involving tourists and warned that “any form of assault, intimidation, or misconduct will invite strict action in coordination with law-enforcement authorities."

Tourism Director Kedar Naik denounced the behaviour depicted in the viral footage, stating it was “unacceptable and not reflective of the values Goa stands for."

He added, “In light of the recent incidents, I have directed tourist police to intensify day and night patrolling, increase vigilance at key locations, and ensure swift response mechanisms to prevent recurrence. These measures are being implemented to reinforce a safe and secure tourism environment in the state."

Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte assured the public that the government is taking all necessary steps to protect tourists.
