A hotel manager in Goa has been arrested for killing his wife after she discovered his alleged affair. 29-year-old Gaurav Katiyar tried to portray the murder as an accident claiming his wife died by drowning in the sea while he was away.
Katiar works as a manager at a luxury hotel in South Goa's Colva. The accused, a resident of Lucknow, married Diksha Gangwar about a year ago. Their relationship, however, witnessed a rough patch throughout this period, an official said.
“He decided to kill his wife as she was aware of his extramarital affair,” news agency PTI quoted police sources as saying. He took his wife to the beach and allegedly drowned her. When he came back alone, some people developed suspicion and dialled the cops. They said they saw the couple going together in the water but developed doubt after Gaurav returned alone.
The accused said his wife drowned while he was away but a video shot by a tourist exposed him. The victim’s body bore injury marks, suggesting she struggled for life while being drowned, officials said.
This came days after a Bengaluru CEO murdered his 4-year-old son at a service apartment in Goa.
As per news agency PTI, Seth allegedly smothered her son to death in a service apartment in Goa’s Candolim. She allegedly tried to flee with the child’s corpse in a taxi but was apprehended in Karnataka’s Chitradurga.
The accused, Suchana Seth, was at loggerheads with her husband and a bitter divorce battle was going on between the duo. As per news outlet NDTV, the woman was seeking Rs 2.5 lakh per month in alimony, claiming that her husband has an annual income of over Rs 1 crore.
The court had granted permission to the accused's husband to meet their child on Sundays, which she doesn't want to comply with.
