Goa Night Club Fire: The Goa Police have arrested the general manager of the night club where 25 people were killed on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday in a raging fire. Seven people were also injured in the fatal fire. Most of the deaths were caused by suffocation as the victims remained trapped on the ground floor, he said.
Eyewitnesses recalled the fire at the 'Birch By Romeo Lane' club in Goa's Arpora village began around 1:00 AM when around 100 people were inside. The Sarpanch of the Arpora-Nagoa panchayat, Roshan Redkar, confirmed that the club's operators were involved in an internal dispute.
The inspection by panchayat following the dispute revealed that the club had ben constructed without the required permits. The club demolition was ordered but was halted by the Directorate of Panchayats.
"There was a dispute between them and they had filed a complaint against each other with the panchayat. We had inspected the premises and found that they did not have the permission to construct the club," Redkar said.
'Birch By Romeo Lane' club is owned by has been identified as Saurabh Luthra. FIR has been filed against him and his brother Gaurav Luthra.
