The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) on Monday stated that flyovers in T Nagar and RK Nagar will be opened for public use by May. It further informed that these flyovers have been under construction for nearly two years, further adding that the flyovers will provide a significant convenience to the residents of these regions and will also provide a boost to the financial activities.

While providing details, the officials stated that the authority has resolved alignment issues near Ranganathan Street in T Nagar and has commenced the construction work to connect the 1.2-km-long CIT Nagar flyover with the Usman Road flyover. Apart from this, they further informed that the authority is also planning to widen the North Usman Road to ensure that both flyovers are similar in width.

The officials stated that while the original plan was to complete the projects by the end of 2024, they got delayed the new flyover, beyond Madley Junction, was found to be higher than the level of existing flyover. However, the authority fixed the issue by ending the CIT Nagar flyover before Ranganathan Street. It further stated that the commuters will travel for a short distance along a closed-lane road before merging into the new flyover.

"There will also be an exit near Ranganathan Street for shoppers heading towards Panagal Park. We are in the process of acquiring land nearby to develop a service lane," a senior official was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

Apart from this, Municipal administration minister K N Nehru had already announced that both the flyovers will be opened to use by May, adding that they will provide a major boost to the transportation.

"Only Vyasarpadi Ganeshapuram flyover is taking time due to ongoing work over railway tracks. This may take another three months. All other flyover works will be completed soon," Nehru stated.
