A cyber fraud racket operating out of Greater Noida took a bizarre turn after police arrested an unemployed doctor who allegedly posed as a woman on dating apps to trap men and extort money. The accused, an MBBS-MD doctor, is said to have carried out the scam to fund his expenses after losing his job and to support his two pet dogs.
The arrest was made by the Cyber Crime Police Station in Gautam Buddha Nagar following a complaint filed by Syed Ayyub Imran, a resident of Bengaluru. During the investigation, police traced the bank account and mobile numbers linked to the fraud to Techno Proview City Society in Greater Noida, where the accused was living alone.

Doctor Created Fake Female Profile
The accused has been identified as Dr Pedagavedi Ramakrishna of West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. According to DCP Cyber Security Shaivya Goyal, after losing his job in a private hospital, the accused was looking for ways to earn money and therefore conceived this online romance scam.
In June 2025, it is stated that he opened a profile of an attractive woman with the name “Shrisha” alias “Shridevi” on dating apps like FRND and befriended many men, lured them and convinced them to transfer money by gaining their confidence.
Rs 10 Lakh Fraud Under Investigation
Police said two victims have been identified so far, Imran and another man named Varishtha Verma. Imran allegedly transferred Rs 4.40 lakh to the accused's Union Bank account after being lured into the online relationship.
After receiving the money, the accused reportedly destroyed the SIM card and Vivo mobile phone used in the fraud to avoid detection. Authorities believe money was similarly extracted from the second victim as well.
Initial investigations indicate that the accused may have cheated victims of nearly Rs 10 lakh, though police are now examining whether more people were targeted and whether the total fraud amount is higher. Further investigation is underway.
