For the last three days, air pollution in Ghaziabad was in the worst category. Ghaziabad was the most polluted among 243 cities in the country on Wednesday. The Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 275. This is not the first time that Ghaziabad has been the most polluted city in the country.
Despite the deteriorating air quality, no action has been taken to address the issue. Neither the concerned officials have said anything in the wake of the situation, nor has there been any kind of ground work to improve the AQI. Meanwhile, Greater Noida stood second with AQI recording at 271. More than 20 departments of the district including Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB), GDA, Municipal Corporation, Transport Department are not able to stop the increasing level of pollution.
All the departments claim to make all plans in coordination with each other, however, on the ground reality tells an entirely different story. It is the responsibility of the Municipal Corporation, GDA (GDA News) and PWD (PWD News) to spray water on the roads of their respective areas to prevent dust from flying.
While the department claims to spray, spraying is not being done and dust is flying on the roads. The district administration and the regional officer of UPPCB are talking about closing down illegal factories, according to a report by Jagran.com.
While the pollution continues to increase, illegal factories are still running in many areas including Loni, Bhopura, Sahibabad. Departmental officials have identified all such factors which are the main cause of pollution.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Delhi launched winter action plan. The plan includes deployment of one or two drones at each of the 13 major hotspots to monitor pollution levels as part of the plan.
Environment Minister Gopal Rai unveiled the 2024 Winter Action Plan with 21 key points. The drone initiative is expected to provide real-time data on pollution sources, enabling swift intervention and precise mitigation measures.
