In a heartwarming gesture, the Gujarat Police and legal aid authorities came together to assist an undertrial migrant woman and her two young children after she was granted bail but had no one to take her home.
The woman, originally from Madhya Pradesh's Alirajpur district, had migrated to Gujarat with her family in search of work. She was arrested as a co-accused in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, in Anand district. The case pertains to the alleged kidnapping of a minor girl, with her brother-in-law being the principal accused.

When she was lodged in Nadiad District Jail, the woman was pregnant and accompanied by her two-year-old child. On May 21, she developed labour pains and was initially admitted to Nadiad Civil Hospital before being referred to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, where she gave birth to a baby boy.
Following medical treatment, she was brought back to jail with her newborn and toddler. Despite later securing bail from a local court, no family member arrived to complete the release formalities or help her return home. With her husband and brother-in-law still in custody and no financial resources of her own, the woman was left in a vulnerable situation.

Recognising the circumstances, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Anand, coordinated with Nadiad District Jail officials to ensure the woman received legal and humanitarian support. Authorities emphasised the need for her safe return home, particularly in view of her health condition and responsibility for two young children.
Legal authorities and jail officials pointed out the necessity for her to reach home safely, particularly because she had health issues with the newborn and was with her toddler son, too.
Acting upon the recommendation by DLSA, Nadiad Jail officials, with the help of an NGO, helped her with the arrangements for the travel with proper support. The woman, along with her two children were provided with a special vehicle to travel back to their village in Madhya Pradesh.
Under the guidance of Gujarat Police chief Dr KLN Rao, the Nadiad District Jail Police arranged a special vehicle, with the help of an NGO, to help the woman travel to her native village in Madhya Pradesh.
Two constables were deputed with the woman and her two children throughout their journey to their village for her security and safety. Once the woman reached her village in Alirajpur district, local police were notified about her presence, who in turn helped with the formalities of taking the woman and children back home.
The woman, along with her two children, was safely reunited with her family.
The family expressed their gratitude to DLSA, Nadiad District Jail administration and Gujarat Police for helping the woman reach her native village.
For the young mother, the journey back home with her newborn son and toddler could not be just the return home to family; it was a rare moment of humanitarian gesture that had made it possible during an extremely difficult time in her life.
