The Tamil Nadu Police have registered a fresh case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against industrialist R Veeramani after the mother of an alleged minor victim approached the Special Investigation Team (SIT) with a complaint, officials said on Monday.
The case was registered by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) of Tamil Nadu Police against Veeramani, chairman of the Gem group of companies, who is currently in police custody in connection with the ongoing investigation into allegations of sexual abuse involving minor girls.
The complaint was filed as the all-women SIT continued its probe into the case. A police officer said the team is taking legal action based on complaints received from alleged victims and their families.
Mother Of Alleged Victim Approaches SIT
According to a police statement, the mother of a victim allegedly exploited by Veeramani appeared before the SIT in Chennai on Monday and submitted a complaint.
Based on her complaint, a case has been registered under the “relevant sections of law”, and the matter is being investigated by the SIT, the statement said.
The police have also urged people who may have information, evidence or details linked to the case to come forward and assist the investigation. Officials said information shared through the designated WhatsApp number will remain “confidential.”
“Additionally, it is informed that all received information will be investigated and prompt action will be taken,” HT quoted the police statement.
Veeramani, Three Associates In Custody
Veeramani, 84, was arrested in August under the POCSO Act. Three of his associates, former employee Ganeshan, Shanthi and her husband Mahandra Simhan, have also been arrested in connection with the alleged abuse of minor girls.

Veeramani, Shanthi and Simhan are currently in police custody until October 8.
The investigation is being carried out by an all-women SIT led by additional commissioner of police, CCB Chennai, P C Thenmozhi. The team also includes joint commissioner (law and order) Disha Mittal, Superintendent of Police J Mutharasi and deputy commissioner of police (crime against women and children) V V Geethanjali.
