Gujarat Rains: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday stated that cyclonic storm Asna, which is currently a deep depression over the Arabian Sea, is likely to bring heavy rains to Gujarat. However, the weather body added that it is expected to shift West-Northwest over the Northeast Arabian Sea and move from the Indian Coast within the next 24 hours. From September 2 to 4, an orange alert (heavy to very heavy) has been issued for Vadodara and Chhota Udepur, Narmada and Bharuch. There is a high velocity wind warning along and off Gujarat coast for August 31. The state has been on a red alert since August 25 and has suffered widespread destruction. Rain abated in most parts of Gujarat on Friday but several towns and villages still remain flooded due to swelling rivers and lakes.

A yellow alert was issued for Navsari and Valsad on September 1, predicting heavy rain in these two districts. According to government records, two deaths were reported on Friday in Jamnagar city due to drowning and one in Dadapor village of Bharuch’s Amod taluka.

On Friday, IMD scientist Ramashray Yadav informed that light to moderate rains can occur over Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar of Gujarat.
