Gujarat SIR Death: A shocking incident has emerged from Gujarat’s Gir Somnath district, where a school teacher serving as a Booth Level Officer (BLO) allegedly died by suicide on Friday. His family alleged that the deceased left a note citing “mental stress and exhaustion” due to the SIR of electoral rolls for his extreme step.
What Led The BLO To Take His Life?
Arvind Vadher was a teacher at a government primary school in Chhara village in Kodinar and had recently been assigned as a Booth Level Officer (BLO) for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, news agency PTI reported.

According to officials, Vadher allegedly hanged himself at his home in Devli village, Kodinar taluk, around 6:30 AM on Friday. In a note reportedly addressed to his wife, Sangeeta, he blamed the SIR duty for the extreme step.
"Dear wife Sangeeta, I cannot do this SIR work any more, and I have been feeling constantly tired and mentally stressed for the last few days. Take care of yourself and our son. I love you both very much. But now I have become very weak and I have no choice but to take this final step. This bag of mine is lying here, it contains all the paper literature. Please give it to the school,” Vadher wrote in the note as reported by Gujarati Jagran.
Speaking to the news agency PTI, Gir Somnath Collector and District Election Officer N V Upadhyay stated that the police are investigating the incident from all angles.
Upadhay said Vadher’s suicide was unexpected as he was considered one of the district’s “top-performing BLOs” and had already completed over 40 per cent of his assigned work.
In the wake of the tragic incident, a delegation from the Gujarat Rajya Prathmik Shikshak Sangh, the association of government primary teachers, met with election officials in Gandhinagar to raise concerns about the challenges faced by teachers serving as BLOs.
