Surat Fake Degree Racket: The Gujarat Police on Thursday arrested 14 individuals posing as fake doctors, along with the mastermind behind the operation in Surat district. The gang, which maintained a database of over 1,200 fake medical degrees, had been offering these fraud degrees to individuals, including Class 8 graduates, for a fee of Rs 70,000 each.
The police also arrested the main accused identified as Dr Ramesh Gujarati, who reportedly offered fake degrees issued by the Board of Electro Homoeopathic Medicine (BEHM) Gujarat. The police recovered hundreds of applications, certificates, and stamps in their possession.
According to a report by NDTV, the police uncovered a scam involving three individuals who were practising allopathy with fake medical degrees. Following a tip-off, the revenue department and police conducted raids on their clinics. Upon interrogation, the accused presented degrees from BEHM, which were later confirmed to be fake, as the Gujarat government does not recognize or issue such qualifications.

The police revealed that the main accused hired five people, training them in electro-homoeopathy. They completed the course in three years, learning how to prescribe electro-homoeopathic medicines.
The fake doctors, upon realizing that people became suspicious of electro-homoeopathy, shifted their strategy by offering degrees allegedly issued by the Ayush Ministry of Gujarat.
They claimed a partnership with the state government through a made-up board, BEHM, and charged Rs 70,000 for the degrees. These certificates promised the ability to practice allopathy, homoeopathy, and Aarogya without issue. The certificates were issued within 15 days of payment, with a renewal fee of Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000 every year.
In another incident, Haryana's Chief Minister's Flying Squad, along with health department officials, conducted a raid on a fake hospital situated across from the National Security Guard campus in Manesar, along the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway. During the operation, a man was arrested for impersonating a doctor and providing medical treatment to patients, according to police reports on Saturday.
According to the police, the hospital had likely been operating for at least five years. The police stated this based on a birth record register discovered at the scene, with the oldest entry dating back to January 14, 2020.
