Three railway workers were detained in Surat in September of this year on suspicion of altering the tracks and reporting "sabotage" to claim responsibility for preventing a disaster.
Among the accused who were taken into custody were Shubham Jaiswal (26), Manish Mistry (28), and Subhash Poddar (39). They were all trackmen in the railways' maintenance department.
Following reports that some unidentified individuals had reportedly tampered with a railway track by removing fish plates and loosening bolts to derail the trains on September 21, the Surat Police conducted an investigation and made the arrests.
