Gujarat Weather Update: The rainfall has been intensifying in Gujarat, particularly in the Southern and Saurashtra districts, as monsoon has made its official entry in the state. The India Meteorological Department has warned of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in the state as it confirmed the continued advance of the Southwest monsoon.
The majority of areas in the state received heavy rainfall in the past three days, triggering a flood-like situation, resulting in several deaths. Dang district received the most rain. The IMD has anticipated very heavy rainfall in the districts of Saurashtra and South Gujarat.
The Meteorological Department has forecast rain for the next seven days, with Thursday, June 19, 2025, expected to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall in the southern part of Gujarat and the Saurashtra region.
According to the department, the following districts are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rain.
Southern Gujarat: Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, and Tapi
Saurashtra: Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, and Gir Somnath
Apart from this, districts such as Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Rajkot and Botad are likely to see heavy rainfall.
Ahmedabad Weather Update: City Under Yellow Alert
The weather department has placed several districts under alert for heavy rain to moderate rain with thunderstorms. Surat, Valsad, and Bharuch remain under an orange alert for heavy rainfall, while Ahmedabad has been placed under a yellow alert for potential light to moderate rain and thunderstorms.
Several Dead In Rain-Related Incidents
In the last few days, several people have lost their lives to rain-related incidents, including waterlogging and flooding in parts of Gujarat.
According to a statement by an NDRF official on Wednesday, as many as four people were reported killed after an Eco car carrying nine passengers swept away in Gujarat’s Botad as heavy downpour created an emergency situation, ANI reported. On Tuesday, at least 18 people were engulfed by the rain-related deadly incidents across the state.
