The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted light to moderate rain in various districts of rain-affected Gujarat on Monday. The IMD issued an orange alert for Junagarh, Porbandar and Gir Somnath districts warning of moderate rain that may cause waterlogging in many parts of the low-lying areas in these districts. 

The met agency also stated that light rain is very likely to occur in Ahmedabad, Mahesana, Gandhinagar, Patan, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Panchmahal, Khera, Anand, Vadodara, Dahod, Chhota Udepur, Bharuch, Narmada, Surat, Tapi, Devbhumi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Morbi, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Amreli, Botad, Bhavnagar, Kutch and in Diu on Monday morning.

The Sardar Sarovar Dam in Narmada district released 18 lakh cusecs of water due to heavy rains in Madhya Pradesh which has affected Bharuch, Ankleshwar City, Kantha and 34 other villages in Gujarat. The authorities have deployed rescue teams of NDRF, SDRF and police to evacuate the people living in low-lying areas of the affected region.

The water level of Narmada River reached 37 feet on Sunday night in Gujarat’s Bharuch district which is 9 feet above the danger level mark. The authorities started evacuating people from Bharuch on Saturday night and according to district administration over 100 people have been rescued so far. Meanwhile, several areas of Chandod, Bharuch, Dahod and Karnali of Vadodara have been flooded.
