Jagran Correspondent, Gurugram: Commuters faced widespread disruptions on Thursday morning as around 500 drivers and conductors of the Sector-52 depot of the Gurugram Metropolitan City Bus Service (GMCBL) went on strike, demanding a pay hike, uniform allowances, and better working conditions.

What Are They Demanding?

While Gurugram has two major bus depots in Sectors 10 and 52, this strike is being carried out by the employees of the Sector 52 depot. The strike began at 5 AM on Thursday.

Speaking to Jagran.com, the employees said their long-standing demands for a salary hike, uniform allowances, and other benefits had been repeatedly ignored by authorities. In protest, they decided to halt bus operations.

According to the plan, the drivers and conductors arrived at the depot on Thursday morning and refused to operate the buses on their scheduled routes. They further stated the protest will continue until the management takes decisive, positive action on their demands.

Commuters Face Major Disruptions

Out of the city's total fleet of approximately 150 low-floor, CNG-powered buses operating on more than 30 routes, the majority operate from the Sector-52 depot. The strike, which began at 5 AM, forced commuters to rely on expensive auto-rickshaws and cabs, leaving thousands of passengers waiting for hours at major bus stops during peak morning hours.

For several passengers, the city bus service is an affordable and convenient mode of transportation. The sudden suspension of services has disrupted their daily routines and forced them to pay additional fares.

Officials Begin Discussions With Employees

In a bid to end the strike, bus service officials have begun discussions with the employees. The management stated that they are considering the workers' demands and are working to find a solution to restore normal transportation in the city.
