Gurugram Dry Days: The district administration of Gurugram has made a formal declaration of a prohibition on the sale of liquor during the 48-hour period leading to the conclusion of voting for the upcoming Haryana Assembly election. The temporary prohibition period, as mandated under Section 135C of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, is aimed at ensuring that alcohol cannot be used to lure voters.

The alcohol-free period will also be enforced in the rest of Haryana. The polling on all 90 Assembly seats across Haryana will be held in a single phase on October 5. According to an order issued by the Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer of Gurugram, Nishant Kumar Yadav, on Wednesday, all liquor shops across Gurugram shall remain closed from 6 pm on October 3 till 6 pm on October 5.

Additionally, a dry day will be observed in Gurugram, like everywhere else in the country, on October 2 on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. Moreover, liquor shops in Gurugram will also remain shut on the counting day, ie October 8. The Deputy Excise and Taxation Commissioner (Excise) Gurugram (East/West) has been entrusted with the responsibilty of ensuring compliance of the alcohol-free period.
