Gurugram | Jagran News Desk: In order to control the coronavirus outbreak, Gurugram administration may order MNCs, BPOs and IT enabled services (ITES) in the city to allow their employees to work from home till the end of July, said a city official.

Gurgaon Metropolitan Development Authority CEO VS Kundu told news agency PTI that the decision is likely to be taken amid the surging number of coronavirus cases in the city.

"As of now it appears this advisory for work from home will continue till end of July. All those who have offices in Gurugram should continue to work from home to the extent possible," Kundu said, who is also the incharge of handling the coronavirus pandemic in the city.

The Gurugram administration had issued an advisory to MNCs, BPOs and IT companies in March asking them to allow their employees to work from home.

Speaking about the construction projects in the city, Kundu informed PTI that several real estate projects, including those of DLF, have got the green signal to resume their work but within the norms of social distancing.

He said that companies should ensure that their employees work from home as much as possible, adding that it can't be done in case of manufacturing industries.

Informing that few construction sites at GMDA and NHAI projects have been allowed to resume work, Kundu said that these companies will have to follow the social distancing norms.

"Construction sites where labourers are already staying on the site or those where labourers stay within walking distance are allowed to resume work while adhering to social distancing norms," he said.

"Such is the nature of the coronavirus pandemic that no one knows when we will go back to previous normal. You may have to go to a new normal," Kundu added.

Gurugram is a corporate and automobile industry hub. The city, which is has reported 51 coronavirus cases, falls in the red zone and is the worst affected district along with Nuh, Palwal and Faridabad in Haryana.

Out of the total number of coronavirus cases in Gurugram, 35 have recovered and discharged from hospitals.
