In a shocking and bizarre turn of events, a man returned home only two days after his family cremated him, thinking he was murdered. A 47-year-old man suddenly reappeared before his family two days after his family performed his last rites, leaving relatives and authorities bewildered.

The man has been identified as Poojan Prasad, a resident of Mohammadpur Jharsa in Gurugram sector, who lived with his wife and three sons.

Prasad went missing in late August, prompting his son, Sandeep, to file a missing person complaint on September 1, as he had not returned home for several days.

The family was informed about a body recovered from an abandoned warehouse nearly a kilometre away from Poojan’s house. The body was recovered on August 28, and the head was severed. Sandeep identified the body to be his father’s at the government mortuary, as he found similarities between the two. Consequently, the family thought he was murdered and cremated the body, thinking it was Poojan Prasad.

“He had an injury mark on his right leg. Incidentally, the body also had a shirt and trouser on it of similar appearance. What made me certain was that there was an injury mark on the right leg which was similar to my father’s," Sandeep was quoted as saying by the HT.

The sons left for Delhi on Wednesday to immerse the ashes in the Yamuna after performing the last rites on Tuesday. While they were on the way, they received a call from his maternal uncle, Rahul Prasad, who said he had spotted Poojan at a labour chowk in Khandsa.

For a while, Rahul thought he was hallucinating and Poojan was not there, but after a while, he realised it was Poojan standing at the labour chowk. Rahul came out of his rickshaw and took Poojan home.
