A man allegedly died by suicide on Monday afternoon in Gurugram. The man live-streamed the act on Instagram while trying to scare and blackmail his former girlfriend, who broke up with him after finding out he was married, police said on Tuesday.
The incident took place at a hotel room in Gurugram’s Sector 38, where the man had checked in with the 19-year-old woman on Saturday night. According to police, the man had a fight with his girlfriend on Monday morning when the woman learned that he had a wife and two children following which she left the hotel.
The man then started a live stream on his Instagram profile, threatening to end his life if she did not return to him. He accidentally killed himself while trying to frighten her, police said.
The woman rushed to the hotel and alerted the staff but he had died by then. The hotel staff informed the police, while the woman contacted the man’s wife to tell her about the incident. The man’s family also arrived at the scene and blamed the woman for extorting money from him and provoking him to die by suicide.

Based on complaint of the victim’s wife, a case was registered against the woman under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Gurugram Sadar police station on Monday night.
The man’s brother, who worked as a high-ranking official in the petroleum and natural gas ministry said his brother had borrowed Rs 50,000 from his wife and Rs 10 lakh from him earlier, but he never told them how he spent the money.

The investigative officer of the case said the man and the woman were colleagues at a hospital before and they celebrated the woman’s birthday together at the hotel on Sunday night. He said they are investigating the case from every angle and further action will be taken as per the probe.
