Gurugram's civic agencies are probably going to start moving utilities in the next fifteen days on a crucial section between Hero Honda Chowk and Umang Bhardwaj Chowk, where an elevated corridor and six-lane road are planned, officials stated on Monday.
In an interdepartmental meeting held at the GMDA office on Monday, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) was briefed on the budget estimates and plans for moving water pipelines, sewage lines, and other utilities by the GMDA and other departments, according to Gurugram deputy commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav.
“The road project between Hero Honda Chowk and Umang Bhardwaj Chowk is crucial as it is one of the city’s busiest stretches. The meeting was held to expedite the shifting of utilities and GMDA submitted the estimates and plans for shifting them. Other departments such as HVPNL and HSVP are likely to do the same in the next week. We expect the work of shifting the utilities to begin in the next 15 days. This work will be carried out by NHAI but the local agencies have to share the location, design and budget estimates on priority,” said A Srinivas, GMDA chief executive officer.
At the meeting, a senior GMDA official stated that all agencies have been instructed to mark the services on the layout plan as soon as possible so that they can be shifted on priority. Other utilities that need to be shifted include high-tension power lines, a CNG station, a petrol pump, and a 66 KV substation.
“All the agencies and departments concerned have been asked to identify and mark the services and utilities that need to be shifted on this stretch on the layout plan. These agencies will work in tandem and on priority with NHAI to get these shifted,” said the GMDA official.
The idea to extend the 3.2 km road from Hero Honda Chowk to Umang Bhardwaj Chowk was proposed in 2021, but owing to encroachments and lack of land, construction could not start. Due to a lack of land, the road authority descoped the project last year. The state government's intention to construct a Metro line along this section further delayed the project because the Metro's designs are still in the planning stages.
Following the descoping, the NHAI consented to build the Rs 138 crore, six-lane road with a flyover along this section. The NHAI's project director, Yogesh Tilak, said on July 3, this year that the organisation will construct an elevated structure and a six-lane road between Umang Bhardwaj Chowk and Hero Honda Chowk.
