Gurugram Water Crisis: With rising summer temperatures, water consumption in Gurugram has surged, leading to a growing drinking water crisis in several parts of the city. In response, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has taken a strict stance against the misuse of potable water.

Notices Sent For Water Misuse

GMDA has issued official notices to Mayfield Garden (N Block) in Sector 51 and Vatika Business Park in Sector 49, for wasting drinking water. During an inspection conducted on April 23, GMDA teams found that both premises were using water from the municipal supply for activities such as gardening, lawn irrigation, and construction work.

According to the notice, such uses should be carried out using treated sewage water, not drinking water sourced from the city's supply network. The authority warned that continued violations would lead to further action.

The GMDA has issued a stern warning, stating that if the misuse of drinking water is not stopped immediately, the concerned water connections will be disconnected without any further notice. The notice was issued by Infra-2, the water supply division of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority.

Executive Engineer Abhinav Verma of GMDA added that a formal letter has also been sent to the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram, urging them to investigate the matter and take appropriate action, including issuing challans or imposing fines on those found guilty of water wastage.

Officials have clarified that government water supply connections are strictly meant for drinking and domestic use. Using this water for any other purpose will be treated as a serious violation. With the current water crisis worsening, authorities have warned that any form of negligence will no longer be tolerated.
