Gurugram Water Cut: Gurugram will witness a 36-hour water supply disruption due to a planned shutdown at the Chandu Budhera water treatment plant. The shutdown will commence at 10:00 am on Monday and last until 10 pm on Tuesday, according to the GMDA. The disruption is required to relocate a 1,200 mm master water pipeline at Bakhtawar Chowk and replace a non-return valve (NRV) at the Chandu Budhera plant. The pipeline needs to be moved because it currently falls within the boundary of a commercial establishment. Additionally, the NRV is being replaced as part of routine maintenance work.
Gurugram Water Cut: Affected Areas
Affected areas will include Dayanand Colony, Old Gurgaon, Laxman Vihar, New Colony, Choti Mata booster, and sectors 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 33, 34, 37C, 37D, and sectors 81 to 115. The boosting station in Sector 51, which supplies water to sectors 42 to 74 and Badshapur, will also face disruptions, as per a report by TOΙ.
Residents are advised to store sufficient water in advance to avoid inconvenience during the shutdown. The GMDA recommends using water sparingly and avoiding wastage during this period.
In a move to address the water constraints in Gurugram, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) in May announced that residents would face a Rs 5000 penalty for using potable water to wash their vehicles or courtyards between 5 am and 9 am.
According to authorities, in the event of repeated infractions, the water connection to the home would be cut off and an extra punishment of Rs 5000 will be levied. The MCG will charge Rs 5,000 for restoring the water supply and Rs 1000 for reconnection. Urban local bodies (ULB) issued directions to stop water waste during the city's peak supply hours, which prompted the decision.
