The FASTag system developed at Bandhwari toll plaza, is set to provide relief to lakhs of commuters travelling through Gurugram, Faridabad as well as Delhi, starting today, September 1. Keeping in mind that everyone should be able to avail the system, the toll operating company has also started an awareness campaign. People are being appealed to get FASTag installed in their vehicles so that they do not have to face traffic congestion in the cash lane, jagran.com reported.
Bandhwadi toll plaza on Gurugram-Faridabad road has been a symbol of traffic jams for the last many years. Severe traffic snarls are witnessed during peak hours i.e. from 8 am to 11 am and from 5 pm to 9 pm.
“For a long time, people were demanding to start the FASTag system at Bandhwari toll plaza. The system will be started from September 1. There will be some trouble for a few days. When people will come to know about the system, then the situation will become normal. Police will be active at the toll plaza for a few days,” Nishant Kumar Yadav, District Deputy Commissioner, Gurugram told jagran.com.
Dainik Jagran raised this demand of the people prominently through a campaign. Within a few months, the years old demand of people has been fulfilled.
People Expressed Gratitude To Dainik Jagran
Engineers Rajesh Singh and Naresh Pandit, residents of Ashok Vihar said that they and many of their acquaintances were demanding FASTag for the last several years. No one was paying any attention. They stated that when Dainik Jagran started raising this issue prominently, then the toll operating company and the state government started showing activism.
Pradeep Shankar, who lives in Palam Vihar, said that he often goes to Faridabad for business. He has never experienced a time when there was no traffic pressure at the toll plaza.
On an average, more than 50 thousand vehicles pass through the toll plaza every day. Most of these vehicles are from Gurugram and Faridabad. In other areas, the number of vehicles from Delhi is higher. If we look at passenger car units, an average of 70 thousand vehicles pass through every day.
For these many vehicles, the number of lanes should have been at least between 35 and 40, but there are only 21 lanes. Until all vehicles are fitted with FASTag, three lanes on both sides will be reserved for cash vehicles. When more than 90 per cent of vehicles are fitted with FASTag, then one lane on each side will be reserved for cash vehicles.
