Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh, who initially opposed the Punjab government's demolition drive against drug traffickers, has retracted his statement. Harbhajan Singh faced criticism from party members for questioning the bulldozing of alleged drug peddlers' houses. On Wednesday, he clarified his position, stating that he fully supports the Punjab Police and the government’s actions.
Taking to X, Singh lauded the Bhagwant Mann-led government for its stringent measures against drug smuggling. “Let me make it very clear. The AAP Punjab government is the first in Punjab to take such drastic action against drug smugglers. I stand in complete support of Punjab Police and the government. Finally, we have a government serious about eradicating drugs. Together, we will win this war against drugs and make our state addiction-free,” he posted.

Earlier on Tuesday, Singh had opposed the demolition drive, stating, "Bulldozing is not the solution." He suggested that instead of razing homes, authorities should arrest drug suppliers and sensitise them about the consequences of drug abuse. His remarks drew a sharp response from AAP leader Somnath Bharti, who termed his comments "completely uncalled for."
In a video message, Singh had expressed concerns over the demolition of homes, arguing that it was unjust to destroy residences that provided shelter to families. He acknowledged that while illegal encroachments should be dealt with, the government should first relocate residents before taking action.

The Punjab government launched its ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ (War Against Drugs) campaign on February 28, demolishing over two dozen illegal properties allegedly built with drug money. Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema recently reported the seizure of over 81 kg heroin, 51 kg opium, Rs 60 lakh cash and synthetic drugs in just 13 days.
According to Cheema, the campaign has led to 1,259 FIRs under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the arrest of 1,759 drug traffickers. Properties of 29 individuals linked to drug smuggling have also been demolished. He said the action shows that the AAP government is committed to eradicate the drug menace, contrasting it with previous administrations that he accused of shielded traffickers.
