Reacting to the arrest of three Indian nationals in the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said it was their internal matter which had nothing to do with India. Jaishankar said Canada accused India of being involved in Nijjar’s murder without providing any proof in this regard. Khalistan Tiger Force chief Hardeep Singh Nijjar was killed on June 18 this year after being shot by unidentified assailants in Surrey, Canada.
The EAM was responding to the questions of the media during his visit to Bhubaneswar. Notably, the Canadian Police on Friday charged three individuals in connection with the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar and indicated they were investigating potential ties between the suspects and the Indian government.

Jaishankar said India will wait for the inputs from the Canadian Police before reacting to the development, adding that Canada was involved in orchestrating organised crime incidents in India.
"But, as I said, one of our concerns which we have been telling them is that you know, they have allowed organised crime from India, specifically from Punjab, to operate in Canada," news agency Reuters quoted Jaishankar as saying.
Jaishankar said the ruling party in Canada had no majority, hence many parties have to rely on pro-Khalistani leaders. “We have convinced them several times not to give visa, legitimacy or political space to such people which is causing problems for them (Canada), for us and also for our relationship,” he said.

Massive diplomatic tension erupted between India and Canada after the killing of the pro-Khalistani leader. Nijjar was also the head of the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara Sahib. Nijjar was India’s one of the most-wanted terrorists and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had declared a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh on him.
