Poonch Attack: An Indian Air Force soldier died, whereas, four others remained injured with one in critical condition after terrorists attacked a security forces convoy in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch sector on Saturday. The cavalcade was attacked in the Surankote area. The attack was carried out by heavily armed terrorists. The Rashtriya Rifles and the JK Police have launched the cordon and search operation in the area.

Earlier, the injured troops were airlifted to Command Hospital, Udhampur for further treatment, said the Security Forces' officials.

Deemed as the first major attack on the armed forces this year in a region which was marred with multiple such incidents in 2023. The attack came amid the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. Notably, the Election Commission has deferred the election date in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri-Anantnag seat to May 25.

According to ANI, two vehicles came under the fire of the terrorists in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. The attacked vehicles were secured inside the air base in the General area near Shahsitar.

The security forces amped up the security in the region with strict checking of the vehicles at the important checkpoints.

The Indian Air Force also shared the news on its official X account.

"An Indian Air Force vehicle convoy was attacked by militants in the Poonch district of J&K, near Shahsitar. Cordon and search operations are underway presently in the area by local military units. The convoy has been secured, and further investigation is under progress," it wrote.
