Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) supremo Om Prakash Chautala, who has served as a seven-time MLA and five-time Chief Minister, is likely to return to the political fray after a hiatus of over 20 years. The 89-year-old veteran, who recently completed his sentence in the teacher recruitment scam, has approached a Delhi court seeking its permission to contest the forthcoming Assembly election in Haryana, Jagran.com reported.
Chautala cited the example of Sher Singh Badshami, who served a jail sentence with him and was granted permission to contest the election.

Om Prakash Chautala last contested and won the Assembly election from Rori in 2005. Sher Singh Badshami, who served his sentence alongside Chautala, has been declared the candidate from Ladwa by the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD).
Although there is a difference in the duration of the sentences of Sher Singh Badshami and Om Prakash Chautala, the nature of their cases is quite similar. Due to this similarity, the likelihood of Chautala also receiving approval to contest the elections is considered strong.
Chautala to contest from Dabwali seat:
Upon receiving approval, Chautala is likely to be announced as an INLD candidate from the Dabwali seat. If this happens, the seat will witness a high-stakes battle between Om Prakash Chautala and his estranged grandson Digvijay Chautala, who has already been announced JJP candidate from Dabwali.

Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) General Secretary Digvijay Singh Chautala has stated that if the situation arises where his grandfather, Om Prakash Chautala, contests from Dabwali, he will welcome it. He mentioned that he would not contest the election from Dabwali out of respect for his grandfather and could never think of running against him. Digvijay acknowledged that the position they have reached in politics today is entirely due to his grandfather's contributions.
